(Psycho Social Settlement Needs Assessment Program)
The Dove of Peace provides comprehensive mental health assessments for Government Sponsored Refugees who have recently arrived in Winnipeg. Arriving in a new country can be overwhelming. It comes with navigating unfamiliar systems, learning a new language and culture, and coping with trauma and loss. Our goal is to ensure that each newcomer that arrives in Winnipeg has access to the mental health supports they need.
Our team of Clinicians help identify mental, physical and emotional needs; and connect clients to culturally appropriate referrals. All of our work is done in the clients’ language of preference. Participation is voluntary and we do everything we can to provide informed consent to the clients. In addition, we provide continued supports which include: referrals to appropriate resources, crisis counselling, extended support services and community connections through our Newcomer Community Development Program.
