The aim of our Newcomer Program is to offer community development programming that is culturally diverse, provide culturally informed mental health and well-being services and contribute to the development of best practices in the field. Aurora has developed programming by conducting Needs Assessment and Referrals, facilitating Information and Orientation sessions, building Community Connections, and providing Direct and Indirect Support Services. Our overall goal has been to remove barriers, increase accessibility, improve settlement outcomes and decrease unnecessary suffering, thereby recognizing and empowering the ability of thousands of newcomers to contribute to Canadian society. We have established strong connections with ethno-cultural communities, various faith leaders and service-providers in order to offer a holistic and collaborative community-based approach to newcomer settlement and integration. We have created and facilitated programming that is unique. Our multi-component program has been well accepted by many refugee communities in Winnipeg as indicated by the large number of clients we have served.
